With occasional dusting, you should only need to wet clean tropical chandeliers about once a year in an older home, or once every two years in a newer home. (You can follow roughly the same cleaning procedures, whether you're working on vintage chandeliers or modern fixtures, but when in doubt, consult your vendor for advice.)
Have another lighting source nearby, and then turn off the power to the unit before you begin. Protect bulbs and sockets from moisture with plastic baggies, secured at the base with rubber bands, and use a drop cloth to keep the floor or furniture clean and dry.
There are many recommendations on what kind of cleaning solution to use. You can mix your own using one part ammonia to three parts water, or a weak solution of mild dish soap. Most retailers also sell solutions.
Spray the beading of classic or contemporary chandeliers liberally withthe fluid, but avoid getting the wires and sockets wet. Most of the time, you should be able to leave the crystals as they are and simplyspray them with the fluid, allowing them to dry where they are. In some cases, though, you will have to clean each bead individually. If you remove any components, don't rely on your memory to get all the beads back in proper order. Either lay them out in the proper order or only take down one piece at a time.
The popularity of these fixtures has as much to do with function as it doeswith appearance. Antique brass chandeliers stay beautiful for ages, thanks in large part to the durability of the metal. In beachfront regions where corrosion is an issue with other materials, it makes perfect sense. Polish it to a fine shine or go for the rustic patina. Either way, modern or antique brass chandeliers really shine in a home. You may also want to take a look at the other crystal lighting chandeliers just incase you are trying to not have antique looking fixtures.
