Small lamp shades that clip directly onto candelabra bulbs are a terrific way to soften the light in an area of the home or subtly complement the surrounding decor. The advantage of chandelier lamp shades is that they allow owners or decorators to quickly and easily change the character of the fixture, as well as match the theme of a home's decor as it changes through the years.
If you're considering a new look, consider updating an antique fixture with chandelier lamp shades, and beaded lamp shades from Kingdom Lighting. It is for lessexpensive than buying a new fixture every time you paint or renovate.
As with crystal lighting pendants and beads, a light shade should also bedustedregularly to prevent dulling of the light and to make cleaning easier. Small lamp shades that are made of fabric are usually easy to clean, but consult your vendor on cleaning plastic, parchment, fiberglass or laminated materials.
To clean vintage lamp shades, first use a vacuum brush to remove all dust. Fill a sink with enough water and mild detergent (many people use dish washing liquid) to completely submerge the shade. Use a soft brush and soap suds to gently brush away any noticeable spots, then dunk the shade repeatedly. Change the water and wash it again, then rinse two or three times in clear water until no more dirt is in the rinse water.
Hang the shade by a string to dry. When it is almost dry - there should not be any water drops falling from it - you may place it back on the light to finish drying it. Any looseness in the fabric will tighten up as the unit finishes drying.
If the fabric becomes discolored or beads get lost, talk to the pros at Kingdomlightingusa.com about getting a replacement lamp shade in the same style.
